Hugh Jones

President & Owner

Hugh Jones has been in the spa & fitness industry for over 25 years and has successfully directed spa programs in several 5-star hotels, resorts and planned communities. He began his career in 1981 at the world famous spa at Palm-Aire, Pompano Beach , Florida. Hugh later moved to the Bonaventure InterContinental Hotel & Spa in Fort Lauderdale , where he was recruited by Turnberry Isle Yacht & Country Club in Aventura, and was named “Manager of the Year”. During that time, Turnberry was rated “Number 1 resort in the U.S. ” by Lodging and Hospitality.

Following the successful opening of the P.G.A Spa in West Palm Beach , Florida , Hugh was Vice President of Development for M.C.M. International, a spa consulting and management company. During this period, he was involved with all aspects of design & spa operations with projects for Canadian Pacific Resorts in Banff , Alberta , Canada, Buena Vista Palace in Orlando , Florida ; and Melia Resort in Cancun , Mexico . In 1995, Hugh was recruited by K.S.L. Recreation Corporation to manage the transition and integration of the Saturnia Spa at Doral, Doral Golf Resort in Miami , Florida . The spa was rated “Number 2 in the United States ”  by Zagat.  

•   In 1997, Hugh was appointed General Manager of Hippocrates Health Institute in West Palm Beach , Florida and in 1999 it was voted “Number 1 in Medical Health Resorts” by Spa Management. Hugh graduated from Management Performance and Development Programs in the Hospitality Industry with Inter-Continental Hotels and Victoria International of Boston.  As a faculty member of Academy of Esthetics and Spa Therapies, he has conducted Spa Manager Certification courses since 1998. Hugh is on the board of directors of the Florida College of Natural Health. He also holds a M.Ed. degree in Exercise Science from the University of Western Carolina .

•   Hugh has also written several articles for Spa Management on planning for profits within the spa, recruiting and managing spa staff, and reviewing existing spa operations to improve service and profitability. During his many years as a Spa Director, Hugh Jones, has mentored many staff members that have gone on to become successful Spa Directors. Since 2000 Hugh has been involved with spa design and development in over 80 successful national & international projects in Switzerland , Canada , USA and New Zealand.

Hugh Jones was responsible for daily operations of this 30-acre vegan vegetarian resort, which promotes a health lifestyle, using enzyme rich live organic food and juices. Hippocrates Health Institute was voted number 1 in Medical Resorts by Spa Management in 1999.

Safety Harbor Resort & Spa, Safety Harbor , Florida Executive Spa Director
Hired to oversee renovation and repositioning of this 170-room resort with 50,000 sq ft destination spa. Responsible for 80 employees and integrating spa with the resort which also has an 18,000 sq ft conference center, tennis facilities and an Outward Bound Program. This 60-year old spa is consistently ranked in the top 10 of American Spas and is one of the few spa properties in the United States that has its own mineral spring. Developed new spa programs for destination spa packages, conference groups, and day spas. Participated in hosting a spa specialist program for travel agents. Member of Executive Committee.

Doral Golf Resort and Spa – Miami , Florida

Executive Spa Director

Recruited to manage this five star international spa through transition from exclusive 48-suite spa to integrate with 646 room golf resort and conference services for new owners, K.S.L. Recreation Corporation. Initiated new pay scales, training program and managed during installation of new property management systems. Integrated spa suites hotel, spa restaurant, and spa staff in this 148,000 sq. ft. facility, which is rated number two in the United States by ZAGAT. Member of Executive Committee.

P.G.A. National Resort and Spa, Palm Beach Gardens , FL Executive Spa Director

Supervised the spa completion and opening of a 19,000 sq. ft. multimillion dollar addition to this Mobil Four Star, AAA Four Diamond, 335 room, golf, conference, and destination resort hotel property.  Hired, trained and directed staff in all aspects of spa operations including beauty salon, nutrition, spa services, and retail.  Introduced spa programs for destination spa, conference groups and Palm Beach County Residents.

Oceania, Miami , FL

Consultant Pre opening and General Manager

Recruited by Oceania to implement total club operations of this $200M luxury beachfront project.

Responsible for  blue print review, purchase of equipment, recruitment and training of over 40 staff to operate in all areas including fitness, salon, personal services, membership, administration, food and beverage and beach club.

Turnberry Isle Yacht and Country Club, Aventura , FL Executive Spa Director

Hired to reposition the spa as a profit center in line with the concept of this exclusive property.  Redeveloped spa programs, retrained and hired staff which resulted in an increase in membership, utilization of spa services and reduced turnover in staff.  Turnberry Isle was selected one of the top 3 spas by McGraw and Hill in 1986 and used for location of Spa style video.  Mr. Jones was selected as Manager of the Year in 1986.  Turnberry Isle Resort was selected 1^st out of the top 400 resorts in the United States in 1986 and 1987 by Lodging and Hospitality.

Bonaventure Inter-Continental Hotel and Spa, Fort Lauderdale , FL 

Men’s Director

Responsible for the daily operations and management of the 45,000 sq. ft. Spa; Established basic spa organization by instituting job descriptions and inventory control as well as initiating pay scales for spa departments; developed a spa orientation manual; conducted training courses for new personnel.  Boneventure Resort and Spa has 508 rooms, world class conference, golf and tennis facilities.
